Notes
Written for fic_promptly in August, using the prompt "Atobe Keigo, what is this 'chores' thing you speak of?"
Atobe raised an eyebrow at the offered bucket held out in front of him.
“Why are you giving me this?”
Marui pressed the bucket against Atobe’s chest. Atobe scrunched his nose as he looked down at the bubbly water.
“If we’re gonna be roommates for the next three years, I’m not gonna do all the cleaning myself.”
Atobe shook his head with a smirk. “That’s what staff is for.”
“You know most people don’t have maids and all that, right?” Marui kept the bucket pressed against Atobe’s chest. “Take it or I take a note out of my cousin’s book and pour it in your bed.”
Atobe blanched at the threat. After another few moments, he finally took it. He stared down into the bucket, the drawn-out silence making it more and more clear that he didn’t know what he was supposed to do.
Marui sighed.
“It’s for the windows. Here, soak the windows with the cloth in the bucket first, then use the squeegee to wipe it off.”
Somehow, Atobe’s eyebrow was raised even higher. If he raised it any more than that it would fly off his face, Marui thought, stifling a snort.
“Squeegee?”
Marui picked said object off the little lunch table. “This. Swipe top to bottom. There’s gloves on the table too.”
He could tell that Atobe wanted to ignore him and not do as asked, but it seemed like he wasn’t very keen on having his bed drenched.
“You have no manners,” he said, eyes following Marui as he kneeled in front of the oven with a screw driver.
“Says you,” Marui said. “I’m just not scared of you the way the rest of class is. I didn’t spend years in the same club as Sanada and Yukimura for nothing. They can be scary when they want to be.” He made quick work of flipping something on either side of the oven, before lifting the door off, making Atobe hold back a jump.
“What are you doing?”
“Cleaning it. Kinda makes it mine, even if we’re just renting.”
Atobe did not understand the logic
He continued to watch as Marui put the oven door on the counter top, where a large towel had been laid out. Marui picked the screwdriver back up, leaning down to unscrew something on it before pausing. “You gonna start with the windows, orrrr?”
Atobe huffed. “Fine.”
He had told himself he would try out living like a commoner, just for a little while (all due to a bet with Shishido that he was starting to regret, but he would never in a million years let Shishido win). And if cleaning was part of that he would… Well, he supposed he didn’t have an option.
Marui hadn’t specified if the water would be poured in the bed while he was sleeping in it, after all.
